I'm back into the swing of things with housework, cooking, washing, ironing etc, although some days I'm mor
e on top of it than others!
We've quickly made some great friends here, and have found Aussies to be pretty friendly, and very easy going. It took Bradley a while to settle, as it was more difficult for me to meet his friends' mums and arrange those all important playdates - but we got there, eventually, and now, 14 months on, he's in with the boys, playing football (soccer!), cricket, and swimming. Adam hit the ground running & quickly made friends in his class.
I'm still trying to get used to the seasons being the 'wrong way round'. When we first arrived, spring was in the air, with beautiful blue skies during the day, and all the spring
flowers out. there aren't as many daffodils here as there are at home, but it was lovely to see (& smell) the freesias as I was walking to & from school - the scent is just heavenly!
Spring soon became summer, and the weather hotted up, although not enough for the locals to feel festive, it seemed! We had visitors from Manila for a few days before Christmas, so it gave us a chance to really test the brand spanking new barbie!! Then it was off to a white Christmas at home with fami
ly in the UK, which was just great!! We stayed on until mid January before returning to Sydney - and the heat!
OMG The Heat!!! First day back at school at the end of January (Brad finally went into Year 4!!, and Adam into Year 1), and it was a scorcher - 45 degrees in the shade, it was unbearably hot! Fortunately it only lasts for a few days, and just as you're beginning to think you can't take it any more (absolutely no housework got done), the temperature drops - by 10 whole degrees in half an hour, as the wind picks up & the rain kicks in.
Our second lot of visitors was Joanne & Shay from Manila. Joanne, a friend of mine from BSM PTA, and her son
Shay who was a really good friend of Brad's in Manila. They came out for their half term week, and it was lovely to see them. We had su
ch a great time with them. We kept Brad off school for one day (told Adam that Brad was sick, poor Adam - he'll never forgive me if he finds out the truth!), and we took the two pals into the city for the day. We had lots of time at the beach etc, and Joanne &
I spent a lot of time together just chatting in the evenings sitting outside. We really enjoyed their visit here.
Our third visitor came out in late March - and it was none other than Grandma!! John had to go to Switzerland for a meeting, so he flew via London, so that he could be with his mum for the return trip to Sydney. While she was here, we did all the sights in town, went to the beach for breakfast & picnics etc.
And once the boys were on their first holidays of the year, we went on a road trip to Melbourne! I must admit, that trying to plan that trip was a bit of a nightmare - trying to figure out where we'd be on what day, so I could book accommodation was all a bit too much hassle - but it was very much worth the effort, as it was a super trip.
